Fig Walnut Halwa

This fig walnut halwa makes a fantastic guilt free dessert which is rich and nourishing with the natural sweetness of figs.Walnuts adds the nuttiness which complements the sweetness of the figs.Enjoy this warm dessert by itself or with ice cream. You can also make this into ladoos and roll them in powdered pistachios/sesame seeds. My kids like it coated with chocolate.

Ingredients:

  • dried figs 2 cups
  • walnuts 1 cup
  • ghee 2 tbsp
  • cardamom powder 1/2 tsp
  • jaggery (optional)
  • pistachios and sesame seeds for garnishing(optional)
  • melted chocolate for topping( optional)

Procedure:

  • Soak your figs in water overnight or at least for 2 hours in warm water.
  • Drain the figs and cook them in the instant pot for 5 minutes or in the pressure cooker for 2 whistles.
  • Let it cool down and coarsely blend them or mash them using the potato masher and keep it aside.
  • Toast the walnuts, chop them and keep aside.
  • In a pan add 2 tbsp of ghee and add the mashed figs. cook the figs stirring continuously for 5 minutes.
  • Now add the walnuts and cook until it thickens for about 10 minutes.
  • Jaggery is optional and you could add if you prefer.
  • Add the cardamom powder and switch off the stove.
  • Serve it warm.
  • You can make ladoos and roll them in powdered pistachios or sesame seeds.
  • Another variation is to roll them in melted chocolate.
